Photographers who sell on Shutterbug Storefront get paid monthly by checks sent via US First Class mail. There are no exceptions to this practice.
The checks are mailed from the 3rd to the 5th business day of each month for the sales balance generated from the previous month. To receive a check, you must generate a sales balance of $25 or more.
USPS guidelines state that First Class mail takes between 5-10 business days to arrive at a destination. (And this does not account for increased holiday volumes.)
In the highly unlikely event there is an unforeseen deviation from our regular check processing and mailing work flow, we will notify our users via a blog post. Otherwise, we would respectfully ask that all inquiries about checks be saved until the next payment cycle. Until that time, we will direct you to this section on the FAQs.
In the occasional scenario where a check is lost in the mail, we will wait to verify it has not cashed, and reissue the check. Please note a fee may be assessed for this service. Should the check be returned to our office, we will notify you of the situation and simply resend the check to you once you have updated your Payment Address Settings (update Administrative Address).
Currently, there are no plans to do direct deposit. Checks are issued in US dollars only.
Balances of less than $25.00 are carried forward and are added to the following month's balance.
Special Services - Fees:
Our office reserves the right to charge a service fee for special handling requests that require us to issue payments outside the normal payment cycle. This would include, but not be limited to:
- Payments issued for lost checks (checks not returned to our office by the USPS)
- Payment reissued for improperly addressed checks (address not updated)
NOTICE: Please make sure you keep your Administrative Address current. We will assess the photographer a service fee (for stop check & processing fee) of $35 if the check goes to a wrong address.
Year End Records:
As an Shutterbug Storefront user (photographer) you are self-employed and receive a 1099 statement (Misc. income form).
1099's will be send out by the end of the month (January) for any photographer/user
who has received $600 or more during previous the calendar year. Remember, this is for actual payments issued just during that time period.
A 1099 represents all commission payments - what we paid in terms of commission/royalty. We do not provide itemized breakdowns, or any other reporting at
this point in time.
For anyone who has done any self-fulfillment, it will represent all payments, minus fees for Shipping and Handling and minus Sales Tax payments collected.
A photographer doing self-fulfillment is responsible for keeping track
of sales tax on a monthly / quarterly basis and should keep suitable records for their local taxing authority.
