Setting Up Digital Downloads
To offer your customers the ability to purchase and download their photos, all you need to do is a create a digital product in any given Pricesheet. You can combine digital products in Pricesheets with both self fulfillment and pro lab products, and you can also put it in a pro lab package. There is a download fee to Shutterbug Storefront of $1.75 per image.
To create a digital product, simply go into your Pricesheet and do an "add product." Once you've added the Digital Download product and named it, go into the "edit product" link and choose a license. By default we offer two licenses: a personal use and an editorial use one.
While in the "edit product" screen, you would also make a choice for "Download Ready = Yes/No" This is essentially the same option as "Print Ready" or "Display Only". It allows the customer to get the uploaded file immediately, or allows you the opportunity to upload an optimized file as you would for the "display Only" work flow.
After you have set up your digital product in the Pricesheet, click on the "Update Pricing and Settings" button. That's it! You can create as many digital products as you would like, and if you use it in combination with our 'display only' feature, this allows you to offer different screen resolutions.
Because it is a digital file, you can upload any type of image. This can be a TIFF or a Photoshop document or a RAW image file. You can even upload custom applications like a screen saver.
What does the work flow for an order with digital products look like?
There are a few noticeable differences. In the shopping cart your license has to be agreed to by the customer before they can finalize their check out. After the order is complete, they will be redirected to a download page. If the files are ready to be downloaded, they can start it immediately. To streamline the download, multiple files will be placed in a zip archive.
If the files are not ready for download, the customer will be recommended to bookmark the page and check back later. You will then be notified to upload the required files. When the files are ready, the customer will be notified and can start their download.
After a customer has completed their download, you will receive an automated e-mail informing you of this. A customer has 30 days to download the files after they have been notified that the files are ready.
Need to resend the link to the customer?
Sometimes, a customer may tell you that they lost or did not receive the email notification with the download link. You can take care of this yourself by sending them the following:
Download URLS are like this:
http://(account name).shutterbugstorefront.com/download_photos/(order_id)
If there is a mapped domain, it is:
http://(mapped domain)/download_photos/(order_id)
For example:
http://yoursite.shutterbugstorefront.com/download_photos/16135"
...where "yoursite" is the photographer/user ID and "16135" is the order ID.
