You can create a virtually unlimited amount of galleries, using subgalleries. Subgalleries can be nested on an unlimited basis into lower level galleries to create an entire gallery "tree structure."
To avoid moving whole blocks of galleries at a later time, we recommend that you give some thought to your gallery structure from the start of creating your Shutterbug Storefront site. Think about what your business will be like, what kind of photos you might be taking, then create your gallery structure to be able to expand accordingly.
Let's look at a possible scenario / starting point for someone who is an "all purpose" photographer:
Main Gallery (then with sub-galleries of the following)
- Sporting Events
- Weddings
- Dance / Theater Events
- Portraits / Families
- Senior Photos
The first level of sub galleries would have the five basic areas of photography done by the studio. Then, they could be broken down into a lower level of sub-galleries:
Main Gallery
- Sporting Events
- HS Football
- HS Basketball
- Cheerleading
- Weddings
- Laura and Tony
- Jean and Tommy
- Dance / Theater Events
- Fall Recital - Miss Mitzi's
- Portraits
- Thompson Family
- Jensen Family
- Senior Photos
- Frederick
- Hansen
- Anderson
- Johnson
Note that after the 5 initial sub galleries, we have shown a further breakdown into another level of sub galleries. "Sporting Events" gets broken down into different sports, Weddings, get broken down by each couple, etc.
We further show another level of sub-galleries being created off of football, where there is a sub-gallery for each game. We could go even further and break the games down by the quarter!
Here are some helpful reminders and hints for setting up gallery structure on your site:
- Keep you Main Gallery your starting gallery. Keep it named something similar to that, so people can navigate back to that page easily and they recongnize it as the "starting point."
- Sub-galleries inherit all the settings from whatever parent gallery they are initially created in. (of course, then each gallery can have their settings changed according to your needs and whishes...)
- Remember your "privacy" and "overview" settings when creating a gallery. (Wonder why people can't see the gallery...? Those are generally the reason!)
- Galleries can contain sub-gallery thumbnails or photo thumbnails. For ease of use and aesthetics, try to keep a gallery with either one or the other.
- When setting up a gallery - particularly an event - remember that smaller galleries generally tend to sell better. Make it easy for parents to find their children. Don't make them sift through 20+ pages of photos. Break the game up into halves or quarters. Don't make a bride and groom run through 600 photos... Separate the day into segments (sub-galleries for "Prep," "Ceremony," "Formals," "Reception" etc. etc.)
- NOTE: DELETING GALLERIES!
Do NOT delete a gallery unless you are CERTAIN that there are no orders pending using ANY photos in that gallery! (Doing so will interfere with that order and limit your ability to fulfill that order!)
